Ars PalmOS History

It’s been a while since this site was updated—7,354 days, or 20 years, 1 month, and 18 days. Anyway there’s a great new Palm article up: Palm OS and the devices that ran it: An Ars retrospective. Even though I used many of those devices, I learned a ton, especially about some of the technology behind everything, which I can understand much better now than I could when I was 20. The article ends as the last update from this site does, with the Zire 72.

I am sad to say that after 32 years HAL-PC, the organization which HPUG was a special-interest group (SIG) of, shut down in 2014. I can definitely say I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the experiences I got at HAL-PC, from the HLUG aka Houston Linux Users Group, HWUG the wifi group, Web Design SIG, and the countless general meetings and people I met.

However to end on a bright note, as a final indictment of the PC era (error? :)) the Houston Area Apple Users Group is still going strong! I never had Mac before I moved to San Francisco in 2004, but now I’m all-Apple-everything so I just signed up for a two-year membership to HAAUG. I hope I can catch a meeting when I’m in Houston, which is my primary residence when I’m not on the road for Automattic or WordPress.
